Slurm is an open-source, fault-tolerant, and highly scalable job scheduling and cluster management system for large and small Linux clusters. Slurm requires no kernel modifications to function and is relatively self-contained.

One of the key functions of Slurm is to assign exclusive or non-exclusive access, or sometimes both, to resources to users for a certain period of time so that they can carry out their work. Also, it offers a framework to start and execute the work, in addition to being able to monitor it, all this in the set of assigned nodes.

Lastly, Slurm allows you to arbitrate the contention for resources by managing a queue of pending work.
