Rootstack designed and implemented a digital onboarding and KYC platform that enabled customers to complete financial product applications through digital channels, combining automation, artificial intelligence, biometric verification, and configurable decision workflows.


The financial institution needed to transform its traditional account opening process and provide a fully digital customer acquisition experience while maintaining strict regulatory compliance. Rootstack was selected for its expertise in developing banking and fintech solutions that integrate automation, artificial intelligence, microservices architectures, and secure connections for critical processes such as identity verification and KYC/AML compliance.
The financial institution relied on a branch-based account opening model that required customers to complete multiple manual steps and identity verification procedures in person. This process resulted in longer onboarding times, a less convenient customer experience, and high abandonment rates during registration.
Additionally, operational and compliance teams spent significant time manually reviewing documentation, validating customer information, and performing regulatory checks. The organization needed a digital solution that would allow customers to open financial products remotely while maintaining strong identity controls, regulatory compliance, and full visibility into every verification stage.
Rootstack designed and implemented a digital onboarding and KYC platform that enabled customers to apply for financial products through digital channels by combining artificial intelligence, biometric validation, automated workflows, and configurable decision engines. The solution allowed the financial institution to replace manual onboarding activities with a faster and more secure digital experience.
The platform was developed using a microservices architecture, providing the flexibility to create different onboarding journeys based on product type, customer profile, and risk level. This approach allowed the organization to adapt the experience according to business requirements without redesigning the entire process.
For document processing, Rootstack incorporated intelligent data extraction capabilities to capture information from official identification documents, validate consistency between submitted data and documentation, and reduce errors caused by manual entry. The extracted information was automatically transferred to validation services, accelerating the completion of each onboarding stage.
To strengthen remote identity verification, the solution included facial recognition and liveness detection mechanisms to confirm that applicants matched their identification documents and reduce fraud risks. Additionally, automated KYC/AML decision workflows evaluated customer information against configurable rules, including risk profiles, regulatory requirements, restricted lists, PEP validations, and international compliance databases such as OFAC.
The platform was integrated with internal banking systems and external providers, including credit bureaus, identity verification services, and regulatory platforms, through API-based integrations. This architecture enabled the financial institution to add new validation providers and launch new digital products through configurable onboarding flows without major changes to the core platform.
