It goes without saying that e-commerce solutions are growing in popularity by the minute. Usually every time a business wants to incorporate e-commerce into their platforms, 2 names come to mind: Magento and Shopify.

Magento

Magento Marketplace is a global e-commerce platform with powerful features and functionalities designed to help global retailers further optimize their virtual stores. When it comes to cost, Magento requires you to purchase an open source license. Magento also requires a server to run, is quite flexible to edit, and is generally geared toward larger businesses. Moving towards the payment process and transactional costs, Magento has a more flexible payment process with 0% + gateway for transactional fees.

Reasons to use Magento

In addition to being an excellent framework for building an eCommerce page, Magento offers other reasons for your customers to stay engaged, such as:

  • Product management: Magento has tools that allow you to incorporate images, comments about products, a list of favorites for the customer who browses the page, as well as inventory.
  • Categories: the products on the e-commerce page can be sorted by categories.
  • Stocks: the products that are left in stock are easily managed with an e-commerce website developed with Magento.
  • Customer account: account status, transaction history, preferred catalog, address, shopping cart, all these options are available on the website.
  • Payments: Various payment options will be available on a website developed with Magento, such as credit card, PayPal, Google Checkout, ePay and others.
  • Search: Magento handles a friendly search technology that makes it easy for the client to find what they need without wasting time.
  • Analyze and Report: Integrate with Google Analytics service and provide multiple reports.

Shopify

Simply put, Shopify is an ideal commerce platform for starting, operating, and growing a business of any size. With its traditional plans and Shopify Plus, Shopify overall now powers over 1,000,000 businesses. Shopify costs around $ 29- $ 179 each month, which includes the cost of the server. Shopify requires a server to better customize the platform, within its limitations because Shopify can be seen as rigid. As we mentioned before, Shopify has its regular plan and Shopify Plus, which makes it a good and adaptable solution for the smallest business to the largest. Moving towards the checkout process and transactional costs, the flexibility of Shopify will really depend on the plan you choose, but the process generally has a 2.0% -0.5% transactional fee if you are not using the direct payment gateway.

Features

Just as Shopify and Magento show differences in their CMS (Content Management System), where Magento uses drag and drop and Shopify really varies by plan, they also have different functionalities. Both platforms include guest checkout, multiple SKUs for products, and custom delivery services.

For credit card payments, both platforms support this, but Shopify can present some issues depending on the country where the business is located. The same goes for reviews. Both platforms can support this, but Shopify will depend on the Marketplace plugin.
